Descripción del Tour:
The walking tour kicks off at our office in the San Telmo neighborhood. Known as one of the oldest areas in Buenos Aires, San Telmo boasts a lively tango and arts scene. Its antique markets, street lamps or "lanterns", cobblestones, and historic buildings with original decor contribute to the area's unique bohemian vibe. Sundays see the most activity as the street market animates around Plaza Dorrego.
Our journey begins as we step into the San Telmo market, an establishment opened in 1897 to cater to the influx of immigrants during that era. Today, you can still find shops offering meat, vegetables, and other groceries, although most stalls now feature local cuisine and international specialties. Here, we will savor some delicious empanadas.
Continuing our stroll along Defensa Street, located in the heart of San Telmo, we reach Plaza Dorrego. After browsing the various crafts stalls, we hop on a bus to La Boca, famed for the Boca Juniors stadium and the vibrant Caminito street. We will be captivated by street tango performances and learn how tango, soccer, and diverse immigrant influences have made Buenos Aires one of the world's most irresistible cities. Here, we will pause to enjoy coffee and a snack.
Aboard another bus, we'll take in views of the modern skyscrapers of Puerto Madero before arriving at Plaza de Mayo, the main square of Buenos Aires and Argentina's political hub. We will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and take in sights of the Cabildo, the colonial City Hall, and the Casa Rosada, the seat of the executive power.
After exploring the square, we will head to the Obelisk, a symbol of Buenos Aires, experiencing the daily life of an Argentine citizen as we walk along the bustling Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world. Historic buildings, monuments, and streets will reveal the transformations the city has undergone since its founding.
Riding the subway, we'll arrive at the Recoleta neighborhood, renowned for its stunning architecture, numerous museums, elegant cafes and restaurants, exclusive avenues, and shopping centers.
We will explore the impressive Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of many of the nation's aristocratic families and notable historical figures, including Eva Duarte Perón. Here, our tour concludes, leaving the rest of the afternoon for you to wander and explore at your leisure.
